Soviet war in Afghanistan is a 9-year period in which the Soviet Union tried to defend the Marxist government of Afghanistan, the PDPA, facing Afghan mujahideen who want to overthrow the government of Afghanistan. The Soviet Union supported the government of Afghanistan, as the mujahidin received support from many countries including the United States and Pakistan.
Soviet troops first came to Afghanistan on December 25, 1979, and the final withdrawal took place on February 2, 1989.
The Soviet Union then announced that all their troops had withdrawn from Afghanistan on February 15, 1989. Because many costs and ultimately the futility of this conflict.
Soviet war in Afghanistan is often equated as the Soviet equivalent of the Vietnam War the United States.
This war has a huge impact, and is one of the factors leburnya Soviet Union in 1991. (Source Wikipedia).
When Russia "leave" from Afghanistan, many leaving their war equipment among hundreds of tanks which has now become scrap metal as seen in the pictures below:
